DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RF

The DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RF provides the DSSP Remote Forwarder pre-installed on an embedded Linux appliance. This appliance can be installed on any TCP/IP network along with the DSSP Server to enable SNMP traffic and management through firewalls.

Using DSSP Remote Forwarder, SNMP requests can be carried over TCP with Secure Socket Layer through firewalls to a DSSP Server^*. The DSSP Remote Forwarder then sends the request to the SNMP agent's port. DSSP also gives firewall administrators the ability to perform filtering on source and destination port numbers as well as addresses.

DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RF System Architecture

Multiple DSSP Remote Forwarders or DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RFs can communicate with one DSSP Server. Secure SNMP communication can occur through multiple layers of firewall-protected networks between a DSSP Server and either a DSSP Remote Forwarder or a DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RF.

Even though the DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RF runs DSSP Remote Forwarder, the appliance offers several other advantages:

Quick installation: The installation process is fairly simple: install the device on the network and establish the network settings. Then, install the security certificates, test, and go. The Linux™ operating system is already installed and configured.
Less administrative interaction: Once configured, that's it. The device functions in a manner similar to a network router: required processes start on boot or restart automatically.
Small footprint: The appliance requires very little space, energy, and cooling to operate. No keyboard, monitor, or mouse are needed once the appliance is deployed.
Network management ready: The appliance also comes network management ready with the EMANATE® Master Agent with IPv6 subagent and MIB-2 subagent pre-installed. These agents run alongside the DSSP Remote Fowarder program to allow easy initial testing and integration into your network management infrastructure.

Availability

The DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RF is available pre-installed on an embedded Linux appliance. The DSSP Remote Forwarder is available separately on a variety of operating systems and platforms.
