Products for Developers: Manager Solutions

Developers that design and build networked systems must provide a management interface so their end-users can monitor and control each system. SNMP Research's management toolkits and applications supply an implementation of a basic SNMP manager with the SNMP Libraries, Utilities, and MIB Tools necessary to extend the manager to oversee the facilities of the original equipment.

All SNMP Research products are based on IETF standards and support SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3.

Management Application Development

The Asynchronous Request Library (ARL) provides an API for building SNMP manager applications or for integrating SNMP manager capabilities into an existing application. The ARL makes it easy to write manager applications that take advantage of the SNMP management framework without requiring the developer to have SNMP expertise or programming capabilities.

Bilingual Request and Security Subsystem (BRASS™) allows one or many management applications to access a single, shared SNMP stack and security database. BRASS optimizes the management station platform by providing full SNMP functionality, management application extensibility, SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 support, and simplified security configuration. BRASS also allows for efficient memory usage when there are multiple management applications. A Management Application Development Kit is also available for C-language applications or Java™-language applications.

Management with Java and Web-based Access

EnterPol®, a member of the SecureIntelligence® family, offers policy-based tools for seamless management of networks, systems, applications, and services. EnterPol's collection of programs, processes, databases, and Java applications forms a foundation for cooperating management applications. EnterPol is a standards-based product that implements the Internet Standard Management Framework (IETF) based on SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3, and uses many standard Management Information Base (MIB) modules.

DR-Web™ Manager brings SNMP management to the Web, making it possible to talk to any SNMP agent using a Web browser. By bringing SNMP-based management into widely available and popular Web browsers, DR-Web Manager enables the Web browser to access SNMP-based management information within any available SNMP agent without modifications to either the browser or the SNMP agents. Web pages that retrieve and display customized sets of management data can be created using HTML editors. Managers can use the familiar Web interface to read from and write information to any accessible SNMP agent.

Management with Transport Layer Security

The (D)TLS Option is available to license Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) support with SNMP managers. Transport Layer Security is the next generation of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and has been added to the SNMPv3 architecture.

Enterprise Manager Extensions for SNMPv3

Distributed SNMP Security Pack™ (DSSP) is an SNMPv3 plug-in for SNMP manager devices that only support historic SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c. DSSP is composed of two products: DSSP Server and DSSP Remote Forwarder. Using these products, "vintage" managers can use the current standard, SNMPv3 with security and administration. Using both DSSP Server and the DSSP Remote Forwarder, administrators can support SNMP-based management spanning firewalls.

Hierarchical Management

Mid-Level Manager (MLM) functions as both an agent and a manager bringing hierarchical management to SNMP-managed networks. This capability is ideal for large and/or distributed networks. The MLM uses scripts designed to perform routine management functions such as polling. Scripts can aggregate, summarize, and transform data into useful information for reporting to the enterprise manager. Mid-Level Manager is available separately or bundled with CIAgent®.

Legacy Device Management

The Proxy Agent Option adds to the agent implementation some additional programming which allows the agent to correctly process non-local context values and to forward packets to other SNMP entities.
